At Bordertown Primary School the students in Year 3, 4 & 5 have the opportunity to participate in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program. Each fortnight classes are involved in gardening and cooking lessons.
The purpose of the SAKG program is to introduce pleasurable food education to children during their learning years, in order to form positive food habits for life.
The children grow and harvest food, in our various garden beds. They prepare food for tasting and then sit together sharing what they have made.
When our school canteen stopped operating we adapted it to provide a kitchen environment. We need and encourage parents/caregivers/community members to volunteer their time to come in and help in the kitchen or garden with small groups of children.
